Phoenix Sky Harbour International Airport USA buys CALKIT™
The city of Phoenix has placed a contract for two CALKIT™ systems on Metalite's US distributor, GSI Inc. based in Clearwater, Florida. In addition to the CALKIT trailers, two sets of "A" PAPIs will be supplied.
This is the first contract received from the United States since the COREL edge light contained in the CALKIT™ system received FAA certification. The first US airport to buy CALKIT™ was Norfolk International in 2002.
The CALKIT™ and PAPI systems will be used to support emergency airfield operations at the international airport in the case of runway and taxiway lighting failures. In addition to the use at Sky Harbour the systems will be available for use at other local airports in emergency situations.
CALKIT™ is the civil version of the MOSKIT and SALKIT systems which are in service with armed forces around the world including both the US Marines Corps and the US Air Force.
