Metalite Supply Shell Oil in Gabon with CALKIT
Metalite Aviation Lighting is to supply a CALKIT system for use at a remote airstrip operated by Shell Oil in Gabon. As local road conditions are poor, the airstrip, which is shared by two exploration companies, is used to transport personnel and equipment to the exploration site. The CALKIT will support both a 600m airstrip and a helipad.
Shell is one of a number of oil companies that use Metalite's CALKIT system as a less expensive alternative to fixed AGL. At about one tenth of the cost of a permanent system, CALKIT allows an airstrip to be established at a remote location thus allowing round the clock air operations. An additional benefit with the trailer mounted CALKIT is that it can be moved from one operation site to another with minimum time requirements.
The CALKIT meets ICAO, UK CAA and FAA requirements for portable airfield lighting systems.
