Italian Air Force Purchases SALKITs

The Italian Ministry of Defence has placed a contract with Metalite for the supply of two Supplementary Airfield Lighting Kit (SALKIT) trailers to be used by the Italian Air Force.

The SALKITs will be used in conjunction with four MOSKIT systems that have been in service with the Italian Air Force since 2002. With the additional SALKITs the Air Force will be able to illuminate extended runways and also delineate taxiway and parking aprons after the initial deployment of MOSKIT.

The SALKIT system is comprised of a single trailer containing up to 64 omni directional runway and taxiway edge lights (ORELs). The ORELs are suitable for visual and NVG flight operations and can be operated by radio control from the Master Switching Unit (MSU) from the MOSKIT system.
