COMPANY PRODUCTS TECHNICAL QUALITY CUSTOMERS ADDRESS ENQUIRIES CALKIT to be used to support oil exploration and extraction within Libya Metalite has recently been awarded a contract to supply a portable airfield lighting system to Repsol Oil in Libya to support VFR night-time operations at a remote airstrip used by Repsol for the movement of equipment and personnel. Repsol Oil like many other oil exploration and extraction companies operate in remote areas where the only method of logistical support is by air. The airstrip consists of a 2100 mtr long runway with a short taxiway and parking apron. To support this airstrip Repsol Oil has purchased a CALKIT system plus additional CORELs as well as an “A” VIS PAPI system for operations at night. While the majority of airfield operations will be completed during the hours of daytime, some delayed operations such as delayed aircraft and medical evacuations will need to be carried out during the hours of darkness. In case of an emergency three personnel can deploy the CALKIT airfield lighting system within 20 minutes. As well as being used under night time conditions, the CALKIT system can be used during poor day time conditions where visibility is low. Repsol has joined a long list of customers from the Oil and Gas sector to choose CALKIT for its airstrips. Existing customers include Shell Oil, BP Oil (Libya and Indonesia), Lasmo Oil (now ENI in Pakistan and Libya), Plus Petrol Peru, Petrosea, ARCO and PDO (Oman). CALKIT is a low cost option for airfield lighting at air strips and airports where the high cost of a permanent airfield lighting system is not cost effective. In addition to being more cost effective than a permanent airfield lighting system, the CALKIT can be moved between exploration sites and airfields to support similar oil exploration operations. |
